Golden Eagle Rally Falls Short at Cabrillo

Golden Eagle Rally Falls Short at Cabrillo

APTOS--Visiting Feather River scored three runs in the eighth inning and four more in the ninth but their rally came up two runs short during a 11-9 slugfest at Cabrillo College on Friday afternoon.

The Seahawks snapped a three-game losing streak with the win and improved to 3-8 on the season. The Golden Eagles are now even at 5-5, with a game under the lights tonight scheduled at Laney College in Oakland (6:30 pm).

Today's contest at The Nest was a pitcher's duel early and runfest over the final three innings.

FRC's Dylan Cabral threw nearly six strong innings (5.2), allowing only five hits, two earned runs, no walks and he fanned three Seahawk batters. But he left the game with his team trailing 3-2 and eventually would be tagged with the hard-luck loss.

The scored stayed the same until the bottom of the seventh when Cabrillo's bats erupted. Four hits, including a pair of doubles, chased across five runs to make the count 8-2. The Golden Eagles would get three runs back in the eighth (on just one hit), but the Seahawks would equal that with three more runs in the bottom half of the frame to take an 11-5 margin.

Still, the visitors made things very interesting in the ninth. An RBI-single by Jake Madson and a run-scoring double off the bat of Koby Roberts brought FRC to within a pair of runs, with Roberts still on second base. Cooper Thacker represented the tying run at home plate with two outs, but his line drive landed in the centerfielder's glove to end the game.

Ten different Golden Eagles had base hits, including two each by Madson and Jerry Thomas. Roberts had FRC's only extra base hit of the game. Meanwhile the Seahawks had 11 hits, including six two-baggers.
