Golden Eagles Finish Roadie with Another Win

Golden Eagles Finish Roadie with Another Win

SAN MATEO--Feather River wrapped up a 12-game non-conference schedule with a 14-12 win over host College of San Mateo on Saturday afternoon, continuing a trend that head coach Terry Baumgartner hopes will continue into the start of league play next weekend.

The Golden Eagles have won four of their last five games (all on the road), and scored 43 runs in four games on this road trip. That is an offensive habit that any coach would like. Additionally, FRC rallied back from a late-game 9-7 deficit with seven runs in the eighth to come back for the win.

"We have played some very good teams the past few weeks and we have shown the ability to battle through when things get tough," Baumgartner said. "We are looking forward to the start of conference play next weekend, especially being able to play at home for the first time."

The Golden Eagles will open up Golden Valley Conference action with a three-game slate versus the College of Siskyous. Friday's single game will start at 2 pm and Saturday's twinbill begins at noon.

Today in San Mateo, Feather River built a 6-0 lead, then trailed 9-7 before finally nailing down the coffin with a 14-12 win.

The Golden Eagles tallied 13 hits, 10 of them coming off the bats of Jerry Thomas, Cooper Thacker and Mohi Kahui. Thomas was 3-for-6 with a double and four RBI. Thacker was also 3-for-6 with three runs scored and an RBI, and Kahui had four hits in five trips to the plate with a pair of RBI and a double.

FRC scored three runs in the first and three more in the third to build a 6-0 lead. Starting pitcher Bridger Holmes was very effective through the first two innings, allowing just one hit and fanning four Bulldog batters.

But the hosts struck for five runs in the bottom of the third to pull within a run and would later score four more in the sixth to take the lead (9-7).

The Golden Eagles then put distance between themselves and the Bulldogs with a seven-run eighth inning. FRC sent 12 batters to the plate and used RBI hits from Thomas and Kahui to help fuel the rally. Golden Eagle reliever Koby Roberts pitched the final three innings to pick up the win.

San Mateo, from the Coast-North Conference is now 6-4 on the season.
