Roadrunners Halt FRC Win Streak at 11

OROVILLE--Feather River's month-long win streak came to an end at the hands of the Butte College Roadrunners on Thursday afternoon.

Butte took the first game of the three-game series 13-7, snapping FRC's string one short of a dozen at 11 straight. The two teams will meet again on Friday with a scheduled doubleheader set to begin at noon.

The pivotal Golden Valley Conference series is being rushed ahead of forecasted dicey weather. The win for the Roadrunners improved their record to 16-8 overall and 8-1 in the GVC. That puts them one-half game ahead of the Golden Eagles who are 7-1 in league play, and now 16-6 overall.

Butte jumped on their visitors early, taking a 6-0 lead into the fifth inning. In that frame, the Golden Eagles roared back with a four-spot, but the Roadrunners answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and then another pair in the sixth. Feather River was then playing catch up the rest of the afternoon.

FRC head coach Terry Baumgartner ran seven different pitchers to the mound in an effort to slow the Butte offense, which pounded out 18 hits on the day. Six of those 18 knocks were doubles.

The Golden Eagles had nine hits on the day, including three by Nainoa Kane-Yates who also had two RBI, a double and scored twice. Jerry Thomas hit a two-run homer, in the ninth inning his sixth round tripper of the season.

In addition to Friday's doubleheader, the two clubs will also meet on April 22-23 in Quincy.
