Talented Baseball Golden Eagles are also Smart

The Feather River College baseball team cruised to a Golden Valley Conference title this spring with a 23-2 league mark and a 32-8 record overall. While they were crushing it on the field, they were also taking care of business off of it.

14 FRC players were named to the Golden Valley Conference All-Academic Team, announced by the league office. Four of those players are also CCCAA All-State Academic.

To qualify for the GVC All-Academic team, the student-athlete must be in his second season at the community college level and have at least a 3.0 grade point average. To earn all-state academic honors, that GPA has to be 3.5 or better.

Pitchers Andrew Burmer and Cole Doebele are on the CCCAA All-State Academic team, as is infielder Braden Thomson and outfielder Cooper Kitrel

Earning All-GVC Academic honors were pitchers Burmer, Doebele, Drew Baumgartner, Preston Brook, Jake Christianson, Scott Lewis and Chace Ostermeyer. Catcher Austin Jones was named as were infielders Thomson, Garret Damico, Cooper Thacker and Jerry Thomas. FRC outfielders on the list are Kitrel and Brock Griffin.

"We strive to be the best on the field and in the classroom," said Golden Eagle head coach Terry Baumgartner. "These guys have accomplished both, and are the kind of student-athletes that we are proud to have represent our program, our school and the local community."

Feather River will host Consumnes River this weekend in the first round of the Northern California State Playoffs. Game one of the best-of-three series is scheduled for Friday in Quincy at 2 pm, with Saturday's first game slated for 11 am.
