13 Innings Later, Feather River Tops American River, 8-6

SACRAMENTO--Feather River was rained out of their Thursday contest with Sacramento City College, deprived of a day of baseball that they so looked forward to.

As it turned out, the Golden Eagles almost played two days worth of baseball anyway on Friday.

After 13 innings and over four hours of baseball, Feather River finally prevailed over American River on Friday afternoon-evening, 8-6. The Golden Eagles improved to 4-1 on the season while the Beavers fell to 1-3.

FRC's Will Page-Allen pitched the final 4.2 innings, holding ARC scoreless to get the win. The freshman gave up just two hits, walked one, and fanned six. He wasn't the only pitching hero, with starter Eric Valdez fanning 11 batters in just 4.2 innings of work, allowing four hits, two earned runs and two walks.

In all, the Golden Eagles sent seven pitchers to the mound in the marathon contest.

Offensively, they battled back from a 6-4 deficit with two runs in the ninth inning to extend the contest. FRC used three straight hit batters and sacrifice flys from Zane Denton and Anthony Cepeda to bring home the tying runs. Four scoreless innings later in the 13th, Reed Alexander dropped down a bunt for a base hit and Dylan Marx followed up up with an RBI-triple to plate what would be the winning run. Marx added an RBI single to bring home Alexander for insurance.

In the bottom half of the inning, Page-Allen found him self in a little trouble with runners on first and second, but he fanned the final batter to secure the win.

Kolt Kurzman was 3-for-4 with four RBI to lead the offense while Marx, Jared Stevenson, and Andrew Lehmann had two hits each.

The Golden Eagles will stay in the capital city for a twinbill with Sacramento City College on Saturday. First pitch is schedules for noon.
