Wolverines Shut Down Golden Eagles, 7-0

Wolverines Shut Down Golden Eagles, 7-0

ROCKLIN--Three Sierra College pitchers combined to hold Feather River scoreless on just two hits to roll to a 7-0 win on Thursday afternoon in Rocklin.

The Wolverines snapped FRC's three-game win streak with the win. The Golden Eagles dipped to 6-2 on the season while Sierra improved to 2-4.

Anthony Martinez did most of the mound damage against the Golden Eagles, pitching the first five innings and allowing just a first inning single to Jared Stevenson. Feather River actually loaded the bases in the first courtesy of Stevenson's single, an error and a hit batter, but they couldn't chase a runner home.

FRC didn't get their next hit until the sixth when Reed Alexander singled, but a ground ball double play erased that threat. The Golden Eagles would have one more good chance in the ninth when they loaded the bags with two outs on three walks, but a fielder's choice ended the contest.

Eric Valdez started the game for the visitors and pitched well enough, going five innings and allowing only three hits, two earned runs and he fanned seven. But errors hurt FRC, they had four of them on the day.

It was a day that the Golden Eagles would like to have back and they won't get that, but they do another shot at the Wolverines on Friday. The two teams will square off again at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, and the Golden Eagles will stay on the same field to take on San Mateo at 2:30 to wrap up the trip.
