Feather River Romps Past Redwoods

EUREKA--A weekend featuring 36 Feather River runs and 26 hits led to a trio of victories for the Golden Eagles over the College of the Redwoods on Friday and Saturday.

The visitors topped the Corsairs by the scores of 16-7 and 15-5 on Friday, and then wrapped up the series with a 5-2 verdict on Saturday. The wins moved FRC's overall record to 17-4 and they are now 8-1 in the Golden Valley Conference. Coach Terry Baumgartner's team has now won six in a row and 11 of their last 12 games. They are a equally impressive 14-4 on the road thus far.

They will continue their road advantures this week with a non-conference game on Tuesday (2 pm) at American River, followed by a big three-game series at Butte next Friday and Saturday.

FEATHER RIVER 16, REDWOODS 7

Jared Stevenson and Reed Alexander hit home runs and Feather River scored in eight of the nine innings played to beat their hosts, 16-7.

The Golden Eagles took advangage of seven Corsair errors but laced 11 hits of their own to plate plenty of runs. Stevenson had four RBI in the game and his teammates Andrew Lehmann, Kolt Kurzman and Shane Danley had two hits each. Kurzman also scored four times. 

Kyle Giovannoni pitched the first five innings to get the win. He allowed six hits, gave up one earned run, walked four and fanned seven.

FEATHER RIVER 15, REDWOODS 5

Like the first game on Friday, the Golden Eagles relentlessly scored in all but two innings on their way to a 15-5 win.

FRC had different offensive stars in this seven-inning game. Zane Denton had two hits and three RBI and Dylan Marx had two hits, two RBI and a triple. 

Trey Smith picked up the win in relief, throwing four innings and allowing just two hits, one earned run, one walk and he struck out five.

FEATHER RIVER 5, REDWOODS 2

A much different game was played to wrap up the series on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles broke open a pitcher's duel in the top of the sixth to pull away from the Corsairs. With FRC holding a tight 2-1 lead, they scored three runs for a 5-1 lead. Jared Stevenson had a two-run double for the biggest blow in the rally. 

Feather River had to count on their pitching in this contest as well. Eric Valdez took the ball and gave his team six solid innings to get the win, scattering five hits, one earned run, two walks and he recorded nine strikeouts. Weston Russell came on to pick up the save with two-thirds of an inning of work, his fourth of the season.
