Have Mercy!! Golden Eagles Take Out Eagles, 15-3

WEED--Feather River scored early and often and then rode a strong starting pitching performance from Eric Valdez for a 15-3 win on Friday afternoon over College of the Siskiyous.

The seven-inning mercy rule victory moved FRC's Golden Valley Conference record to 11-4 and their overall mark to 22-7. Siskiyous dropped to 5-10 in conference play and 12-15 on the season.

The two squads meet again today in Weed at noon, before playing a twinbill in Quincy on Monday.

The Golden Eagles jumped out quickly, scoring three times before the Eagles could come to bat. In the fifth, a Reed Alexander grand slam boosted the lead to 7-1, and before FRC was done they had put up a six spot on the scoreboard to make it 9-1.

FRC added three more runs in the sixth and a trio more in the seventh to account for the 15 runs and seven-inning mercy rule ending.

Alexander finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and six RBI. Andrew Lehmann and Zane Denton had three hits each and Jared Stevenson had a two-run triple. In total, FRC had 15 hits from eight different players.

Valdez pitched six innings for the win, allowed just three hits, three walks, no earned runs and he fanned eight.

Feather River, ranked No. 2 in the latest CCCAA North rankings, held serve in the GVC standings with the win (11-4). Butte College, who swept Shasta yesterday in a doubleheader, improved to 14-4. Lassen is just behind FRC at 10-4.
