QUINCY--After the all the drama that comes with a 5-4 win in 11 innings on Thursday, the Feather River Golden Eagles didn't have the time or taste for it on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead after just two innings of play and crusied from there to a 13-0 victory over Shasta College at the Eagles Nest. That bumped FRC into the top slot in the Golden Valley Conference with a 16-4 record, just a half-game ahead of Butte College (15-4).
Feather River is now 27-7 overall heading into a Monday game against College of the Siskiyous, set for 2 pm in Quincy.
Today, FRC pounded out 17 hits, scoring three runs in the first and second innings, six runs in the fifth and one more in sixth. Anthony Cepeda and Kolt Kurzman had three hits each, while Jared Stevenson, Zane Denton and Andrew Lehmann had a pair of base knocks each. Stevenson's hits were a double and a triple, he scored three runs and also walked twice.
Meanwhile, starting pitcher Eric Valdez was nearly spotless. He pitched the first six innings and allowed only three hits, one walk and he struck out five. He picked up the win to improve to 4-2. After he left the game, the bullpen of Michael Hoefgen, Sean Kinney and Rhys Fairweather threw one inning each of hitless baseball.
Monday's game against Siskiyous is one of five regular season games left on the schedule for the Golden Eagles. That includes final regular season meetings against Butte, on April 25 in Quincy and April 26 at Butte.
