Feather River End Opening Weekend 2-2

Feather River Softball split on opening weekend winning the first two games of their season against Cosumnes River and Monterey Peninsula. Friday January 26th the Golden Eagle's beat the Cosumnes River Hawks 5-2. Cosumnes River scored two in the first inning and the FRC defense as well as pitcher Jersey Tsosie held the Hawks scoreless for the remainder of the game. Kayli Mueller had a big bat with two homeruns and 3 RBI's. The Golden Eagles ended the game with five runs, six hits, and no errors.

The Golden Eagles then played Monterey Peninsula College where they were leading 5-0 in the top of the seventh with bases loaded and due to darkness, the game had to be extend to Saturday January 27th. Sophomore Alexa Baumgartner having three hits in four plate appearances giving her two RBI'S helped lead the Golden Eagles to a win. Pitching for the Golden Eagles was sophomore Lisa Lucero. The Golden Eagles shutout the Monterey Peninsula Lobos 6-0.

The second game against Monterey Feather River lost 8-3. Feather River scored two runs in the second and one in the fourth. Braelyn Birkel earning an RBI from a sac bunt helped the Golden Eagles score early in the game. Mueller and Brianna Lopez-Cortez both hit a double. The final game of the invitational was the second game against Cosumnes River. The Hawks scored right off the bat making the score 1-0 in the first. The Golden Eagles were scoreless until the fourth inning where they put one run on the board making the score 1-1. Cosumnes River scored three more in the fifth and then three more in the seventh. In the seventh inning Paisley Heitman singled to score Baumgartner. The Golden Eagles lost to the Hawks 7-2. Feather River's next match up will be against Sierra College and College of San Mateo on Febuary 10th for a double header.
