UKIAH--Feather River used a different recipe to land at a similar result today during a 4-1 win over Mendocino College.
The Golden Eagles, who have let their bats do the talking for their eight previous wins, used excellent pitching, some timely hitting and adventages base running to top the Eagles for the second day in a row. Feather River improved to 9-3 with the victory, while Mendocino dropped to 1-6 on the season.
Three FRC pitchers toed the rubber to hold the Eagles to just one run on five hits. Ben Davalos pitched the first four innings, allowing just four hits, one run and he didn't walk a batter. He fanned three. It was the first collegiate start for the freshman and just his second appearance.
Keller Bloodworth pitched the next three innings and gave up only one hit and struck out two. He received the win, the first of his college career. Will Page-Allen closed out the game with a two-inning hitless save, striking out a pair. It was Page-Allen's third save of the year.
Feather River got on the board first in the top of the first without the benefit of a hit. The Golden Eagles used two walks, a balk, stole two bases and took advantage of three Mendocino errors for a 2-0 margin.
From there, FRC pitching took over. The Eagles pushed across a run in the fourth to make it 2-1, but the trio of Feather River pitchers made that one run lead hold up. The FRC offense added some insurance in the ninth after a walk and another error put two runners on base, and Dylan Marx brought them both home with a double.
Marx had two hits for the visitors, who will now take on San Joaquin Delta on Friday and San Mateo on Saturday. FRC will then play their first home games and Golden Valley Conference contests next weekend against Butte.
