San Mateo Has FRC's Number, 8-2

SAN MATEO--Feather River's five-game win streak came to a halt on Saturday afternoon in a way that seemed a little too familiar.

The College of San Mateo defeated the Golden Eagles 8-2, halting a hot streak by FRC that had lasted just a little over a week and for five games. Before the Golden Eagles started that run, on Friday, Feb. 7 San Mateo also topped Feather River, 8-3.

The Golden Eagles wrapped this early season non-conference and road schedule with a 10-4 record. The Bulldogs improved to 4-5. Next week, FRC begins Golden Valley Conference play with a three-game series with Butte. Friday's game in Quincy will be Feather River's home opener.

San Mateo methodically put runs on the scoreboard today, scoring in all but the second and fourth innings. In doing so, the Bulldogs built a 8-0 lead before the Golden Eagles got on the board in the eighth inning.

Prior to that, FRC didn't have any problems getting runners on base, they just couldn't bring them in. Double plays wiped out rallies in the first and second stanzas, and the visitors had the bases loaded in the fourth and couldn't plate anyone. In all, they left eight runners on base before the eighth. In that inning, FRC scored twice on three hits, including Christian Obos's RBI single.

Feather River finished with eight hits in the game, all singles. Grant McGuire was 2-for-4 to lead his team.

Friday's home opener start time is 2 pm.
