SUSANVILLE--Feather River scored six runs in the top of 11th inning and then held off a comeback by host Lassen College during a 13-11 marathon win on Saturday in Susanville.
The Golden Eagles improved to 8-2 in the Golden Valley Conference with the victory and to 18-6 overall. The Cougars are now 6-4 in the GVC and 14-8-1 on the season.
This wild one had five lead changes and a crazy 11th inning that ultimately decided the contest.
With the score tied at 7-7 after nine innings, both teams went scoreless in the 10th. But in the 11th, with the lead runner placed on second (international tiebreaker), the Golden Eagles struck for six runs.
Dylan Marx and Zane Denton had RBI singles, and a few batters later Christian Obos seemingly put the game out of reach with a grand slam, chasing home four runners.
But the Cougars mounted a comeback of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Taking advantage of two FRC errors and two of their own hits, they plated four runs and had the tying run on base when the game ended on a rundown as the Golden Eagles caught the Cougars hitter, who had just singled, to far off 1st base.
Feather River had 17 hits in the game, including four by Denton. One of those hits was a double and he drove in three. Grant McGuire had three hits, while the following players had two hits each--Marx, Anthony Cepeda, Rocco Crow and Nick Anderson.
Six different players toed the rubber for FRC, with Tanner Hail getting the last out for the win. He went two innings and allowed two hits and no earned runs.
These two teams will return to action on Tuesday, this time in Quincy. Start time is 3 pm.
