Golden Eagles Bump Butte, 5-2

Golden Eagles Bump Butte, 5-2

OROVILLE---Feather River used a trio of pitchers to stymie host Butte and take a 5-2 victory on Friday afternoon in Oroville.

The win was huge for the Golden Eagles, who picked up a game in the Golden Valley Conference standings on the Roadrunners. Feather River, who had dropped two of three games to Butte back in late February, increased their conference lead to 2.5 games over Butte and Lassen. FRC improved to 12-3 in conference play (22-7 overall), while Butte dipped to 10-6 in league action and is 20-11 on the spring.

The two title contenders will swap site on Saturday, playing a 2 pm game in Quincy.

Steven Cherry, Jayden Andrade and Will Page-Allen combined to hold Butte to just four hits and got just enough offensive support to gain the win. Cherry retired the first nine batters he faced, while his team built him a 2-0 lead. Dylan Marx singled in the first and worked his way around the bases to make it 1-0, and the visitors used three walks and a balk to add another run in the third.

Cherry faced his first trouble in the fifth, allowing a run and left a runner on third base, but Andrade came in and fanned the next two batters to keep the game at 2-1.

Nick Anderson would drive in a run in the sixth and FRC would plate an additional unearned run to make it 4-1. Quintin Terrell drove home some insurance in the ninth, and Page-Allen picked up a two-inning save by retirning six straight batters for the save. He fanned three of those six in a row.

It is Page-Allen's sixth save of the season.

Feather River is now 17-5 on the season on the road. At the Eagles Nest, they are 4-1.
