LONG BEACH – Top community college programs from across California are headed to Long Beach City College for the 2025 3C2A Women's Beach Volleyball State Championship, taking place Thursday, May 8 through Saturday, May 10. The three-day event will showcase elite team and individual talent on LBCC's picturesque five-court facility.
The tournament opens Thursday with the team championship, featuring six qualifying programs divided into two pools. Each team will compete within its pool, and the winners will face off for the state title later that day. On Friday, attention shifts to the pairs competition with pool play determining which tandems advance. The top-performing pairs will return Saturday for single-elimination bracket play, where a new state champion duo will be crowned.
Thursday's six-school team tournament features many of the same programs as it did last year. Cerritos and Santa Barbara City have entered the tournament, but San Diego Mesa, Feather River, Fresno City, and MiraCosta all competed for the team title in 2024.
Pool A includes South No. 1 San Diego Mesa (18-6), the Pacific Coast Conference champions; North No. 2 Feather River (21-3), the Golden Valley Conference champions and defending state champions; and South No. 4 Cerritos (16-8) from the South Coast Conference.
Pool B features North No. 1 Fresno City (26-0), the undefeated Coast Conference champions; South No. 2 MiraCosta (21-8); and South No. 3 Santa Barbara City (19-6). All pool matches are scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM on Thursday.
The pairs competition features the top duos from across the state. Nicole Lankton and Annah Legaspi of Santa Monica earned the No. 1 seed in Southern California after capturing the regional title at Mt. San Antonio College. Fresno City's Lusa Andrews and Phoebe Constable claimed the top seed in Northern California. Leading the field in entries are MiraCosta and Fresno City, each with three qualifying pairs. Orange Coast, El Camino, San Diego Mesa, Long Beach, Sierra College, San Joaquin Delta, Feather River, and Monterey Peninsula each qualified two pairs.
Among the returning talent is San Diego Mesa's Myah Gomez, who won last year's state title with Kailyn Jager. This year, Gomez pairs with Jaiden Mojica in hopes of a repeat. With strong fields on both the team and pairs sides, fans can expect intense matchups and breakout performances.
Will defending champions Feather River hold their crown? Can Fresno City complete a perfect season with a title run? Or will a new contender emerge to make history? All will be decided on the sand this weekend in Long Beach.
Fans can stay up to date with all the action throughout the championship weekend. Results from Thursday's team competition will be posted here. Updates from Friday's pairs pool play will be available throughout the day, with the morning wave here and the afternoon wave here. Saturday's single-elimination bracket play can be followed here, as the top tandems battle for the 2025 state title.
Good luck to all the athletes competing this weekend and may the best women win!
