OROVILLE--Feather River jumped out to leads in both games of a Saturday doubleheader at Butte College, one resulting in a win and the other a loss.

The Golden Eagles split the twinbill with the Roadrunners, winning the first game 7-4 and falling in the nightcap, 8-1. Coupled with Friday's Butte win, the Roadrunners take the series, two games to one.

Both teams finished the day at 11-6 overall, with Butte now 2-1 and Feather River 1-2 in Golden Valley Conference play.

In the first game, the Golden Eagles built a 4-0 lead through the first four innings of play. Butte sliced into that with three runs in the fifth, finally getting to FRC starter Steven Cherry who tough prior to that allowing just a pair of hits and two walks.

Feather River answered with runs in the seventh and eighth courtesy of Zane Denton, who homered and drove in a second run on a fielder's choice. Defensively, Will Page-Allen closed out the game with a 1.2 inning save, allowing just one hit, no runs and he fanned two.

Quinten Terrell led the offense with three hits, including a double. Drake Rogers had a pair of hits for FRC.

In the rubber match, FRC struck first in the top half of the first after Dylan Marx singled and came home on Kolt Kurzman's base hit. The Golden Eagles held that 1-0 lead until the third inning when Butte scored twice. The Roadrunners would add another in the sixth inning to make it 3-1, still very much within FRC striking distance. Jack Hanna pitched five strong innings for the visitors to keep them close, giving up three hits, a pair of runs and he struck out five.

But Feather River couldn't get runners across the plate. They had at least one base runner every inning except the eighth and ninth, but they were either left stranded or wiped out by a double play. Meanwhile Butte erupted for five runs in the seventh to put the game away.

FRC had eight hits in the game, all singles. Marx had two of them, as did Kurzman.

FRC will continue GVC play with weekend with a home series against College of the Redwoods. Friday's doubleheader starts at noon, as does Saturday's single contest.
