REDDING--Feather River bounced back from a rare setback in a big way with a doubleheader sweep on the road of visiting Shasta College.
The Golden Eagles, who had dropped a 11-2 contest to the Knights on Friday, reversed the results on Saturday with 11-2 and 5-1 victories. That bumped FRC's overall record to 21-7 overall and to 11-3 in the Golden Valley Conference. Shasta is now 6-8 in the GVC and 11-18 on the season.
Feather River jumped out early in the first game, putting up a 4-spot in the first inning. That 4-0 lead would hold through six innings, and then the Golden Eagles would add single runs in the seven and eighth innings before closing the door with five runs in the ninth.
Meanwhile, starting pitcher Tanner Hail was nails in picking up the win. He pitched 7.1 innings, gave up just five hits, two earned runs, walked three and struck out four. Hail improved to 5-2 with the win.
Shane Danley led the hit parade with three base knocks, including a double. He drove in three runs. Dylan Marx, Anthony Cepeda and Drake Rogers also had two hits apiece, and each had a two-bagger.
In the second game, the Golden Eagles used a committee of four pitchers to hold the Knights to a single run on five hits and they struck out six. Jayden Andrade started the contest, followed by Gavin Moreno, Cal Colavecchio, and Will Page-Allen.
Offensively, Cepeda and Rogers had two hits each again, as did Kolt Kurzman. Rogers had another double, giving him a 4-for-8 day with two doubles.
Big games loom for the Golden Eagles next weekend, with a split location pair of contests with Butte. Feather River will play at Butte on Friday, and then host the Roadrunners on Saturday. Start time for both games is 1 pm. Feather River is currently in first place in the GVC with an 11-3 mark and Butte is second at 8-4.
