Golden Eagles Open Up With Victory

Quincy - The Feather River College women's basketball team started their 2023-2024 season at the Jocelyn Mancebo Classic at San Joaquin Delta College. The Golden Eagles are led by fourth year Head Coach Keshawn Johnson. Coach Johnson is coming off a 2022-2023 season which saw the Golden Eagles finish with a 19-8 overall record, advancing to the second round of the 3C2A playoffs. 

The Golden Eagles opened up the tournament with an impressive 85-29 victory over Cabrillo College on Friday, November 3rd. Five players recorded double figures in the victory, leading the offensive attack was Freshman Khalilah Corley, who recorded 21 points. Iliana Nye recorded the first double-double of the season with 10 points and 16 rebounds. 

Feather River opened up day two of the classic against tournament host and perennial basketball power San Joaquin Delta College. The Mustangs defeated the Golden Eagles by a score of 75-48. Feather River was once again led by Corley, who recorded 21 points on 7 of 15 shooting from the field. Freshman Cierra Bailey came off of the bench for the Golden Eagles to record 8 points and a team leading 8 rebounds.

The Golden Eagles faced College of Sequoias on the final day of the Jocelyn Mancebo Classic. The Golden Eagles led 33-31 heading into the fourth quarter but College of Sequoias were able to take the lead and defeat Feather River by a score of 56-45. For the third day in a row, Corley led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 15 points. Freshman Emily Hughes came off the bench to chip in 9 points and 3 rebounds.
